Dr. Beth Newman Ooi


Beth Newman Ooi (email; BA, Emory University, English; MA, The Catholic University of America, English; PhD, The Catholic University of America, Medieval and Byzantine Studies, 2018) most recently served as Research Assistant for Project Andvari, an NEH-funded digital portal for early medieval art of northern Europe. Dr. Ooi is a specialist in the literature and culture of Anglo-Saxon England, and her dissertation, The Speaking Objects of Anglo-Saxon England, examined inscribed material objects and their representation in Old English and Anglo-Latin poetry. As Research Assistant for the “RuneS” project (“Runic Writing in the Germanic Languages”) at Katholische Universität Eichstätt-Ingolstadt, Germany, Dr. Ooi contributed to the first complete catalogue of Anglo-Saxon runic inscriptions. At CUA, Dr. Ooi has taught and assisted in teaching courses for the departments of English, Medieval and Byzantine Studies, Media Studies, and the Honors Program.
