Sr. Maria M. Kiely, PhD


Sr. Maria M. Kiely, O.S.B. (email; BA Scripps College, Claremont Colleges, Music; MA Stanford University, Early Music; BA Thomas Aquinas College, Liberal Arts; MA, L’université de Laval, Québec, Philosophy; PhD The Catholic University of America, 2013) has since completing her PhD served first as a lecturer at CUA and more recently as an instructor of Greek at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, DC.  Her dissertation was entitled Ambrose the Pastor and the Image of the ‘Bride’: Exegesis, Philosophy, and the Song of Songs, and she is currently revising it into a monograph.  Among other topics, she has published on Paulinus of Nola: “The Interior Courtyard: the Heart of Cimitile/Nola” (JECS 12.4, 2004) and presented on Ambrose of Milan: “The Funeral Oration of Valentinian II: a Christian Appropriation of Pagan Ritual.”  A Benedictine nun in the Congregation of Solesmes, she is also on the Editorial Board for ICEL (the International Commission on English in the Liturgy).
